Where hum and hiss come from
Hum is a low, steady tone, usually from mains power reaching a cable, a cheap microphone or a laptop on its charger. Hiss is the high, airy noise of a microphone or recorder turned up too far. Fans, fridges and air conditioning add their own constant drone.

How do I remove hum from audio for free?
